Plant Tissues in Focus

The Plant Tissues in Focus CD-ROM features a virtual microscope designed to assist students studying aspects of biology that involve microscopy.

Students can load slide sets of plant material, view them (pre-focussed) at three different magnifications, add labels to help identify structures and use a grid to estimate size.

This package is not designed to teach students how to use a microscope and it cannot replace the hands-on experience gained through using a real microscope. It is assumed that students have some knowledge of microscopy and of the structure and function of plant tissues. However, once your students are familiar with a real microscope, Plant Tissues in Focus will help students quickly, easily and effectively explore and identify microscope images.

Plant Tissues In Focus is a companion to the Body Tissues in Focus CD-ROM.

Inside the Plant Tissues in Focus CD-ROM

Plant Tissues in Focus contains photomicrographs of cells and tissues from a range of photosynthetic organisms.

Each set of slides is based on a particular theme - Roots, Stems, Leaves and Reproduction.

Subjects can be viewed at low, medium, and high magnifications, and a descriptive text accompanies each image.

Students are also able to view two images side by side, or the same image at two magnifications, to compare and contrast cell and tissue structures.

A 70 page Teacher's Manual, which includes:

  • a Teacher's Guide,
  • Student Worksheets, and
  • Worked Solutions

is included in Acrobat PDF format on the CD-ROM.
