Marine Life in Western Australia
Marine Life in Western Australia is intended to raise awareness of the fascinating marine environment surrounding our coast, and involve people in marine conservation and the long-term future of our oceans.
From the tropical north to the rich temperate waters of the south, explore a beautiful world rich with sponges, corals, sea stars, crabs, fish and many other creatures.
The Marine Life in Western Australia CD-ROM was developed as part of the community monitoring program run by CALM and the Marine Conservation Society WA, and as part of the WA Museum's Discovery Centre.
Inside the Marine Life in Western Australia CD-ROM
|
Marine Life in Western Australia uses a simple lead-through key allowing easy identification of marine plants and animals and provides fascinating information on many of the State's common marine species.
- Take a journey around Western Australia's growing network of marine conservation reserves.
- Stop off to explore our varied marine environments from mud flats and mangroves to coral reefs.
- Learn about introduced marine pests, how they travel and why they can cause problems in the marine environment.
You can either search using the simple identification key, or use the index to locate the particular creature or group you want to find out about.
The identification key uses a series of clear line drawings to help you find out about a mystery plant or animal.
An introduction to each group of related plants or animals is given, followed by a slide show of many common species from that group. You may not find an exact match to the species you are looking for, but you will discover which group it comes from and what its living and feeding habits are likely to be.
An option to print out the text makes this an ideal support tool for classroom teaching.
Video clips, voice over and the interactive key makes the CD easy to use and a pleasure to explore. |
