Body Tissues in Focus

The Body Tissues in Focus CD-ROM features a virtual microscope designed to assist students studying aspects of human biology that involve microscopy.

Students can load slide sets of a given body tissue, view them (pre-focussed) at three different magnifications, add labels to help identify structures and use a grid to estimate sizes.

The program is not designed to replace the hands-on experience gained through using a real microscope, but will help students quickly, easily and effectively explore and identify microscope images.

Inside the Body Tissues in Focus CD-ROM

Body Tissues in Focus contains photomicrographs of cells and tissues from the human body.

Each set of slides is based on a particular theme:

  • Digestive system
  • Bones and cartilege
  • Circulatory system
  • Endocrine glands
  • Excretory system
  • Muscular system
  • Nervous system
  • Respiratory system
  • Tissue types

Subjects can be viewed at low, medium, and high magnifications, and a descriptive text accompanies each image.

Students are also able to view two images side by side, or the same image at two magnifications, to compare and contrast cell and tissue structures.

A 52 page Teacher's Manual, which includes:

  • a Teacher's Guide offering suggestions on the effective classroom use of the program,
  • Student Worksheets, and
  • Worksheet Solutions

is included in Acrobat PDF format on the CD-ROM.
